Why Pay for Research?

There is a huge amount of free investment and economic research available to IFAs. Most prolific in the distribution of this research are the investment banks, insurance companies and fund management groups. But it would be naive to believe it is provided by these organisations unmotivated by attempts to further their own interests. Sometimes their interests and the interests of investors are not aligned. Oftentimes that research is ill-suited to the provision of a sustainable, consistent investment service within the financial planning context.   


Independence has always been the pillar upon which rests good research and, subsequently, good advice. But, given recent events, it is probably more important now than it has been in recent times. Indeed, IFAs recognise that independent research is a key requirement for attracting and retaining business.
